In our latest real estate tech interview, I’m talking to Stefan Negritoiu of MileLogr.com. As the name suggests, they log your miles for you. And as you know, real estate agents drive more than most.

Without wasting anymore time, here’s a bit more from Stefan…

What do you do?

I’m a technologist and an entrepreneur having worked for both large software companies and on my own startups. I like creating products that allow us to work less and enjoy life more although in the process I end up working more and sometimes enjoying life less :-).

Why do you do what you do?

Because “there’s a lot of life happening [outside of work] between 9 and 5” (Shine: The Entrepreneur’s Journey) and because “Human beings were not meant to sit in little cubicles staring at computer screens all day, filling out useless forms and listening to eight different bosses drone on about mission statements.”  (Office Space)

What are you most excited about right now?

I’m excited about www.MileLogr.com because it helps people save money on taxes with what is perhaps the most annoying and time consuming type of expense. With MileLogr you can generate a whole year’s mileage log in one shot even if you forgot to keep track of business trips during the year. And you’re better prepared in case of an IRS audit because the mileage report includes time, location, and attendees in addition to distance. That’s because MileLogr uses your existing calendar meetings as the basis for the mileage log. As long as you put business meeting on your calendar using your phone, tablet, or laptop it can reconstruct daily routes between your home/office and business locations and automatically calculate distances for the entire year.

What’s next for you?

We built MileLogr as a first step in the “work less, enjoy life more” vision. We want to radically simplify expense management and eliminate manual entry. We’ll transform expense reporting into reviewing auto-generated reports created from intelligently using existing data that professionals already create as part of their day-to-day work like calendar, email, contacts, and travel data.

What’s a cause you’re passionate about and why?

I learned about building a business from the ground up the hard way, on my own. We live in exciting times and it’s possible to make a living in many ways. I’d like to give back from my learnings about building an innovative socially-responsible business. So I volunteer as a judge and mentor with Duke Start-Up Challenge and write on topics like 3 Essential Tips for Student Wannabe Entrepreneurs.
