In our latest real estate tech interview, I’m talking to Vincent Turner of Planwise. I sat down with him today at the Impact HUB in Seattle and spoke a bit about his company, the REach program, as well as the new app we are working on at Oh Hey World (which is still not ready for broad public consumption).

Without further adieu, here’s a bit more from his own mouth…

What do you do?

vincent turnerI design technology that helps people make better financial decisions and run the startup (Planwise) behind this technology

Why do You Do What you Do?

I think that technology can play a huge role in helping people to help themselves as well as improving the quality of the interactions they have with service providers like their real estate agent. I like the idea that a lot of problems that look different are actually very similar and while we can build a business by solving the problem in a commercially viable context, it also lets me solve the problem in a vertical where perhaps it’s not so viable commercially but there is still a huge need for the solution.

What are you most excited about right now?

The sharing economy or collaborative consumption. This is one of those unique moments where we can do good, save people money, reduce our impact on the planet and have more fun. Lyft and Airbnb is just the beginning. I think we will start to question our need to own most of the things we choose to own today. That’s an exciting change.

What’s next for you?

Long term I want to apply my knowledge of technology, finance, networks/marketplaces and people to change the way philanthropy operates. But this is a little way off, it is important to be single-minded in my current endeavor Planwise which is solving a huge problem that affects a lot of people every year.

What’s a cause you’re passionate about and why?

Advising other startups.. I just love it. Small business has always had the biggest impact en masse. With technology so accessible now (to build and consume) the ability for startups to literally change the world is possible.  Helping people who are in startups to dent their bit of the universe is a daily passion that I’ve never considered work. For truly non-work it is djing, check me out on soundcloud.com/vinae – I’ve dj’d around the world for a decade now.

Thanks to Vincent for sharing his motivations and current projects. If you’re interested in connecting with him further, you can find him on LinkedIn and Oh Hey World.
