Why Brokers Support The Broker Portal

by Merle Whitehead on 5:00 am February 13, 2017

Homesnap and Broker Public Portal

Background For the past two years, it has been my distinguished honor to serve the industry in the development of the Broker Public Portal. Today, I serve as the company’s Chairman, and am one of the representatives of the Large Broker class of the Board of Managers. Background about the Broker Public Portal MLS consumer websites have been around forever in real estate. There has been a long discussion between brokerage firms and MLSs about the nature of competition between those consumer sites and the … Read More »

Topics and Startups from Inman Connect

by Drew Meyers on 9:06 pm January 26, 2017

Last week was Inman Connect in New York, which is always a fun trip for me. I simply love New York (and thought about moving there a few years ago). Over the course of the week, I spoke with a wide range of startups, and discussed a variety of topics. Here’s a few that left an impression: mythic-vr.com: I’d previously experienced lighter weight VR devices powered by mobile phones, but never a full scale immersive experience. We’re still very very early, but VR is definitely looming on the horizon. RealScout: … Read More »

Homesnap + Broker Public Portal: The Unofficial Why and How (and the case for more PR)

by Sam DeBord on 11:04 am January 23, 2017

Homesnap and Broker Public Portal

I’ve been seeing a lot of questions about the direction and makeup of the Broker Public Portal and its relationship with Homesnap. I have no direct influence or investment in either group, but plenty of interest. Let’s clear the table first—some of these questions come from a great post/discussion earlier here on GeekEstate, others I’ve heard out in the field. Unofficial answers about the Broker Public Portal and Homesnap (caveat emptor): Why? Brokers want a national search experience for consumers in which the brokers control … Read More »

Homesnap + Broker Public Portal

by Drew Meyers on 2:54 pm January 20, 2017

I saw the news that Homesnap and Broker Public Portal formed an equally owned joint venture. (click here for prior writing on Broker Public Portal) A few things… First, I’m still unclear EXACTLY what the goal of Broker Public Portal is? Second, is the new joint venture a FOR PROFIT initiative? Third, I ask again — why exactly will a consumer care about BPP/Homesnap? Fourth, consider the following: “HAR.com and a number of other MLSs have been able to capture a reasonable share of voice in online consumer … Read More »

Looking to the Future, and Not the Past

by Drew Meyers on 2:22 pm March 31, 2015

Some of you may know that the Broker Public Portal recently hit its initial funding milestone. I just looked at the website again. The most prominent message on the page… NATIONAL MLS CONSUMER FACING WEBSITE I still don’t get the investment strategy. The web is 20 years old. Investing in a website NOW has an incredibly low likelihood of long term success due to the fact that we are long past the saturation point on the web. Buyers are not racing to find a new website to find properties, … Read More »

The National Broker Public Portal: Simplicity, Differentiation Are the Paths To Success

by Sam DeBord on 3:30 pm February 22, 2015

Simplicity - Broker Public Portal

There has been a lot written about the possibility of a national Broker Public Portal for real estate–probably too much, for a project that’s nowhere near being off the ground yet.  Still, the idea rallies the spirits of many brokers, so it has legs. The hurdles in front of the project are massive, and they shouldn’t be ignored.  They should become the focus of the project.  Its success will not be driven by trying to overcome them, but finding a way around them. A member-led … Read More »
