I wrote a post over on GeekWire titled Community Building 101, and I think it’s worth touching on the topic here as well since it’s such a vital topic for those who wish to succeed.

The key takeaway?

Community building 101 is NOT talking to each and every community member. Great community building is facilitating interactions, conversations, and, ultimately, relationships among community members.

Yet far too many people don’t understand that simple fact about community building.

online_community-300x225Whether you know it or not, you are ALL in the business of building community. That’s how you make your living. If you don’t have a community — particularly in a referral based industry such as real estate — you have nothing.

I’m no different. I’m in the game of community building, too. As a blog owner, I find it extremely cool to see these members of the Geek Estate community sorted on geographic proximity (if you are signed in). The really cool thing is, some of them are individuals I didn’t even know read the blog since they don’t comment — it goes without saying I really miss the old MyBlogLog dynamic of putting a face to blog communities.  If interested, you can read more about connecting with others in the Geek Estate community here. Note to the people already signed up: add a short bio and link to your website so you get a little bit of SEO love 🙂

What are you doing to facilitate conversations and relationships between YOUR local community?
