Elba’s dream was to own a home with a real floor and a front door so her children could sleep in safety and comfort. Thanks to the passion of Giveback Homes Members and our partnership with Habitat for Humanity, Nicaragua, that dream became a reality.

Giveback Homes

Last month, soon after I first introduced Giveback Homes to you all, I had the pleasure of leading five real estate agents on a journey to help build a home for Elba and her three beautiful children. Giveback Homes Members David, Chad, Sarah, Susan and Mark are all part of a Real Estate mastermind group in Las Vegas.  Shortly after joining Giveback Homes, they were inspired to pack their bags and see our building efforts in action.

Giveback HomesIn a small community in Nicaragua, known as Esteli, Elba used to live in a home — with her three kids — made out of scrap wood and plastic tarps. She supports her children (Nahomi, 9; Cristell, 7; Aaron, 2) by selling food at her daughter’s school where she earns $160 a month.  After paying the landowner $30 every single month for the last five years, she finally owns the land outright.

Giveback HomesNahomi and Cristell both share a love for math, and want to be professors when they’re older. Elba plans to continue building on to her new home because she would like for her kids to have a room of their own. She also plans to start a business selling food out of her new home too.

“All I want is for my kids to only have to worry about studying,” said Elba,

“I want to give them everything they need.”

Giveback Homes

Giveback Homes team members placed about 600 cinder blocks, moved over 15 bags of concrete, and slabbed 1,500 pounds of cement during our time there. We completed the foundation, walls and framing. Then Habitat for Humanity, Nicaragua hired professional masons to complete the roof and windows. This one home was made possible because of our members and their clients.
