The BitCoin Realtor / Agent

by Drew Meyers on 9:47 am January 23, 2018

I just watched the discussion with Piper Moretti (moderated by Wendy Forsythe) about purchasing homes with Bitcoin (see here) at Inman Connect. She’s done several deals with Bitcoin in the last year in Southern California — she’s now the “Bitcoin realtor“. It’s worth asking — who is the Bitcoin realtor / agent in your city? If the answer is no one, winning mindshare (and SEO) for that term is something worth investing in.

Bitcoin + Real Estate = Boom or Bust

by Ines Hegedus-Garcia on 10:00 am December 19, 2017

[Note from Editor: Originally published on Miamism] The subject of cryptocurrencies is HOT right now!! And when it comes to real estate, it’s going viral.  In Miami, it’s about which agents are versed in crypto and which sellers are willing to price their properties in Bitcoin – ultimately it’s about thinking “outside the box” in a changing market and wanting to be ahead of the curve. The cryptocurrency craze may seem sexy but it certainly is generational.  Ask 3 groups of people about digital currencies and you will … Read More »

Tipping Tuesday…with BitCoin

by Drew Meyers on 12:28 pm November 18, 2014

I’ll follow Fred’s lead: Tipping Tuesday. I added a tip button from Coinbase to all posts here on Geek Estate, if you feel inclined to help keep the lights on. I included a Paypal donate button on this post earlier this year, and got one or two donations from it. We’ll see if a tip with bitcoin gets any better response. For those who want to add a tip button to your own site, you can do that here:

Fred Ehrsam on BitCoin

by Drew Meyers on 8:27 am September 28, 2014

This presentation by Fred Ehrsam (CEO of CoinBase) was shared on AVC yesterday, and I thought it was worth highlighting here. While I don’t think many people will be buying houses with BitCoin anytime soon, I do think the technology can enable some interesting businesses for new agent/broker focused technologies. Historically, a known business model is building a software offering and charging $19.95 or $29.95 per month. With BitCoin, maybe we will see $2.99 or $4.99 offerings that gain significant traction. Of course, the challenge is still distribution … Read More »

What is Bitcoin – and Should You Care?

by Drew Meyers on 6:02 am January 24, 2014

Everyone seems to be wondering about Bitcoin. I’ve been asked about it several times over email and in person over the past few weeks. I suspect, that’s because a broker is now accepting Bitcoin — and no surprise, the media is eating it up. In my mind, this is nothing more than a marketing ploy for being the “1st”. Smart to get some attention, but it really doesn’t amount to much in the grand scheme of things. They “accept” it — so what? Are people really paying them … Read More »

There is No Chance BitCoins Will be Successful in the US. Period.

by Drew Meyers on 11:29 pm December 16, 2013

There was some bitcoin news today in the real estate vertical – RentHop is accepting them. But watch clip #6 from the conversation Semil Shah had with Keith Rabois at Khosla Ventures: The key statement: There is No Chance BitCoins Will be Successful in the US. Period. Keith worked at both PayPal and Square prior to becoming a venture capitalist, two companies who have done a thing or two with respect to online payments, meaning he knows the payments space inside and out. What do … Read More »
