by Drew Meyers on 7:00 am February 2, 2016

Last week was spent at Inman Connect in NYC. The primary reason for the trip was meeting with potential enterprise partners for the recently redesigned The other part of my time there was spent helping my dear friends at Giveback Homes with their Startup Alley booth. It was great to spend time with Caroline Pinal (see below photo), and speak to brokers and agents about the great benefits Giveback Homes provides its members. by Drew Meyers on 8:45 am January 22, 2016

It’s no secret I’m a fan of Giveback Homes, as I’ve written about their organization numerous times. One of their co-founders, Caroline Pinal, will be speaking on stage on Thursday at Inman Connect, so don’t miss it if you’re attending the conference. There are a number of other Giveback Homes members speaking throughout the week as well, all of whom you can find here. I’ll be helping Caroline at their Vendor Alley booth off and on throughout the conference, so please do stop by and say hi. Look forward … Read More »

Gifts for Real Estate Agents (Realtors) in 2015

by Drew Meyers on 3:51 pm December 11, 2015

Are you looking for gift ideas for real estate agents (aka Realtors) this upcoming holiday season? Those who know me, know I’m not the biggest fan of consumerism (read this post I wrote on Christmas day in 2010). Thus, in 2015, please don’t spend money purchasing worthless material items your friend or family (who happens to be an agent) doesn’t need. Here are a few worthwhile Christmas gifts to consider: The first month or two of membership to GiveBack Homes ($50/mo). I can’t think of a better way to … Read More »

Many of you know today is #givingtuesday. I recommend you giveback by becoming a member of Giveback Homes. Or Kiva. Or The AdventureProject (which is what I donated to earlier today). Or any other cause you care about. And yes, Black Friday is a con. [Graphic via Mary]

Change Heroes – Fund a Home, Then Build It

by Drew Meyers on 9:43 am November 13, 2015

I was speaking to the founder of HelpingB (crowd funding for social good ideas) because we’re thinking about doing a campaign for Horizon to get us onto Android. On the call, she told me about Change Heroes, which helps people campaign with 9 other friends to build homes in Latin America (in partnership with Techo). They also help you go actually build the home yourself. Change Heroes’s campaign with Techo reminds me of NewStory (coverage) and Giveback Homes (coverage). It goes without saying, I’m a massive fan of … Read More »

The first time I met Blake and Caroline from Giveback Homes was last summer in San Francisco immediately prior to departing for Start-Up Chile. 12 months later, in the same city, at the same conference (Inman), I had the chance to hang out with Caroline again, and meet their new team member Mary. Realtors See Their Donated Dollars in Brick & Mortar

by Caroline Pinal on 12:56 am May 22, 2015

Giveback Homes Members from all over the U.S. traveled to Nicaragua for one shared goal: To build a home for Josefa and her family. I was joined by Matt Curtis, Rebecca Brooks, Carrie Hill, Madison Hildebrand, Audie Chamberlain, Jeri Moran, Shaun Rawls, and Giveback Homes Founder, Blake Andrews. Everyone made a donation towards Josefa’s home, and then got to see their dollars translated into bags of cement and piles of cinder block. As a Member, 100% of all donations go directly to our building projects; none is … Read More »

The Real Estate Industry Goes to Nicaragua

by Drew Meyers on 12:09 pm April 28, 2015

Helping others changes you. Seeing the impact your money has on those less fortunate than you changes you. Seeing poverty with your own eyes changes you. The harsh realizion that the way we live in the United States is a fairy tale to the majority of the world is the largest reason I set down the path of creating Horizon. I believe more people should live their life with that understanding. Those who understand this diverse world we live in in a deeper way than through the lens of mass … Read More »
