Google LAKE View? Or Microsoft LAKE View?
Yesterday, there was additional news from the Google Street View team — Street View is now integrated into Google Maps for business listings. I’ve long been a fan of Street View and the latest news prompts a thought I’ve been meaning to blog about for awhile — I wonder if Google is working on “Google LAKE View”? If not, maybe Microsoft is. My friend and I were kayaking a few weeks ago on Lake Sammamish and looking at all the unbelievable waterfront homes. For instance, take a look at this spectacular home for $2.5 million.
In my mind, it would be an incredibly valuable asset for a high end listing agent (or their Brokerage) to be able to provide a way for home buyers interested in lakefront property to tour the lake they specialize in — similar to the way buyers can tour neighborhoods with Street View. If one brokerage offered lakefront buyers this imagery on their website, and another did not – that’s huge (I guess unless the other broker offered to actually drive them around the lake in a boat). I can tell you for certain which website I would use to look at properties.
If Google can figure out how to capture imagery of entire cities using cars, surely they (or someone else) can figure out how to capture imagery of entire lakes using a boat. Just saying…

Posted at 20:49h, 28 AugustThis is an interesting concept but I wonder how owners of these properties would feel from a privacy standpoint if Google/MS did this… I know it's similar to street view but people expect visitors from the street and create privacy barriers accordingly.

Posted at 00:47h, 29 AugustLake view would be a nifty tool for an agent or someone just interested in browsing lakeside properties.
Like Joshua mentioned though, it might not go to well with all owners, but things could be done to maintain a certain level of privacy.
