Today, YouTube is testing their new YouTube livestreaming platform. Here’s the current line up of content:

But this post isn’t about YouTube; it’s about the question of when this technology will become used in the real estate industry. The technology has been around – Jeff Turner has live streamed multiple events I’ve been at straight from his iPhone. I always tell people that, aside from the high tech industry, real estate seems the first industry to adopt just about everything social online. That’s largely because a huge part of every real estate agents job is socializing and building their sphere to increase the likelihood, and anything that can help them talk to more people more efficiently is something they are eager to try; I believe live streaming is one of those technologies just waiting to be adopted.

Have any real estate agents or brokers played with live streaming technology to do live online shows for your readers and sphere — maybe monthly or weekly? Granted, I think you need a fairly large web readership to really make it worth the time (who wants to live stream to 2 people?), but there are certainly some agents/brokers who could pull it off (Jay Thompson is the first to come to mind). As long as you implement a live stream in a way that people have to view it on your website rather than somewhere else, a regular live show would be yet another thing you could do to drive people back to your website with the focus of enticing new viewers into self identifying themselves using your conversion tools (home search, market reports, home value estimate, “ask the broker”, etc) in a way so that you can follow up with them and bring them into your sphere.

What are your thoughts on live streaming? Do you think it’s a viable prospecting and relationship building method? Are any of the tech vendors in the Geek Estate community thinking about this opportunity?
