In our latest Meet the Real Estate Tech Entrepreneur interview, I’m talking to Jon Sterling of AgentFindr. I’ve known Jon a long, long time and I can confidently say he’s one of the most fun people to hang out with in the entire industry. If you hang out with Jon for a night and aren’t constantly amused with his humor and end up with a grin  on your face…it’s you that has a problem, not him.

Without wasting anymore time, here’s a bit more from Mister Sterling…

What do you do?

jonsterlingWe match consumers with real estate professionals based on behavior, personality and social graph.

Why do you do what you do?

The real estate industry is largely archaic and this is a contribution we can make to improve the experience for both consumers and real estate professionals. When we match consumers with agents and we get great feedback from all parties involved, it confirms that we are onto something. Real estate is the industry that I have chosen for my career and I want to leave it in better condition than how I found it. AgentFindr is one small step in the right direction. It breaks my heart when I hear horror stories from people about their miserable real estate experiences. I would be a happy man if I never heard another one of those stories.

What are you most excited about right now?

Besides the fact that private space travel will likely be available in my lifetime? Or, that I can choose to take a one-way trip to Mars?

The speed at which technology is changing the real estate industry (and the rest of our lives) is exhilarating. I am a big fan of efficiency, and efficiency is arriving in all areas of our lives at lightning speed due to our advancements in technology. The by-product of the time that we ALL reclaim is an increase in our collective creative output. The best minds of our generation have more hours in their days to create things than ever before.

Think of it this way: If you could have a conversation with someone your age 100 years ago and you said that traveling to Mars was an option if you had a little cash, how would she have responded? 100 years is hardly a blip on the radar when you look at the history of the world. Unless we self-destruct as a species, the next 100 years will be astounding to anyone alive today (and probably elementary or boring to the people living 300 years from now). I am excited to live through as many of those years as possible.

What’s next for you?

We are happy with our trajectory at Agent Finder. We look at the quantified-self movement and see ourselves as part of the next step. As of today, all the quantified-self efforts have been focused on physical bodies (FitBit, Nike FuelBand, etc.). We know the behavioral, personality and social aspects of our beings are much bigger issues to tackle. We plan to expand our matching services to other professions outside of real estate within the next year.

What’s a cause you’re passionate about and why?

My cousin was paralyzed in a construction accident about fifteen years ago. I donate as much money as I can to paralysis research and spinal injury recovery causes. When he is able to take a walk again someday, I will know that all this hard work has been worth it.
