In our latest Meet the Real Estate Tech Entrepreneur interview, we’re speaking with Justin Shreve of Rentmatic.com.

Here’s a bit more about him, from his own mouth…

What do you do?

JustinShreveI run Rentmatic.com. Rentmatic makes paying rent effortless for tenants and makes rent collection reliable and consistent for landlords. I’ve also been deeply involved in developing a variety of cutting edge real estate technology for the past ten years.

Why do you do what you do?

Living in San Francisco, I’ve rented for a long time. My rent check was the last paper check I was writing. I was able to pay online or automate most bills, but not rent. It also seemed that rent collection was a constant pain point for my landlords. Each month they had to wait for a check, hope they’d get it, run to the bank, deposit it, and then finally hope it didn’t bounce. There had to be a better way. I developed Rentmatic so that any landlord could easily set up recurring electronic rent payments from their tenants, thus removing this monthly headache from both sides of the equation.

What are you most excited about right now?

I’m excited about the recent growth Rentmatic has experienced. We see more landlords, tenants, and gross rent payments moving through Rentmatic every month. I’m also excited about making it even more appealing for tenants to pay through Rentmatic, by offering the ability to positively impact credit scores through consistent rent payments.

What’s next for you?

Aside from my quest to wipe out paper rent checks, I’m interested in expanding our offering to include more vacancy marketing tools, credit reporting, and a more mobile friendly experience. I’m also interested in advanced ways to track rents in aggregate to help landlords more accurately price vacancies.

What’s a cause you’re passionate about and why?

This is quite personal, but the JDRF. I’ve been a Type 1 diabetic for 26 years and couldn’t be more passionate about finding a cure for diabetes.
