Meet the Real Estate Tech Entrepreneur: Rayhan Rafiq Omar
In our latest Meet the Real Estate Tech Entrepreneur interview, we’re speaking with Rayhan Rafiq Omar of Wigwamm — all the way from London.
Here’s a bit more about him, from his own mouth…
What do you do?
Design apps to make life easier for estate and lettings agents.
London is our first market, with the Listing App being our first product. People have these amazing computers in their pockets; the Listing App allows an agent or broker to create a professional property listing from their phone with just a few taps. Win over clients by giving them more of your time (instead of sitting at a desktop computer trying to think up descriptions).
Why do you do what you do?
A recent customer’s remark about our Listing App: ‘Is there really no other app that does this?’
That’s why we do what we do. While others compete for incremental gains, we’ve spotted a number of opportunities where people need help.
By creating little, valuable apps really well, we can realise our vision of property being transacted online with confidence.
All the innovations we have lined up are designed to fit in the gaps where no-one else is helping. That means we want to work with existing software providers, portals and brokers/agents to save people time.
What are you most excited about right now?
Working with other real estate tech entrepreneurs. There are some amazing innovations out there: MagicPlan, RoomScan, MySociety’s Mapumental, Property Detective, Happy Inspector… the list goes on.
That’s the great thing about software: it can all plug together, so each company/person can deliver their own value to create a rising tide for property professionals.
On Wigwamm specific product, I’m most looking forward to our camera app which will allow anyone to take professional quality property photos from their iPhone – it’s blow-your-mind simple.
What’s next for you?
The Listing App is fun, useful and has a lot of potential to simplify an agent or broker’s life. While we have an idea of where we want to go (better information for buyers and renters to compare property online, leading to transacting property online), it’ll be our customer agents and brokers who help us focus on the next product. Right now, we’re focused on right now: getting this Listing App perfect.
What’s a cause you’re passionate about and why?
I think it’s absurd we have all this data showing how education systems are not fit for purpose, yet there’s no disruption in schooling. A child’s education shapes their entire future, and is the second most important part of a their life, after the family unit.
At least in the UK, the school system was designed to build a workforce. That requirement doesn’t exist today.
It’s absurd that schools today are willful in the destruction of the family unit, when they force parents to ask a child: “have you done your homework yet?” There are only ever two responses: embarrassment or lying. Both of which are negative. This destroys the bond between parent and child, and is compounded by children watching their parents carry on while the child has to deal with 3-4 hours of homework, as if they are being punished.
My solution is a school to demonstrate what education should really be about: guiding children to reason for themselves. Kids can parrot-fashion recite knowledge that is crammed into them, but are incapable when it comes to making decisions (that aren’t robotic – read: Frankenstein’s Castle by Colin Wilson).
