In our latest real estate tech interview, I’m talking to Stefan Martinovic, founder of Create.

Essentially, a “SimCity for the real world”. Without further adieu, here’s a bit more from his own mouth…

What do you do?

I’m Founder & CEO of Create, a real estate data platform for investors and the building industry. Our mission is to organize building and property data, and empower stakeholders to collaborate on projects that unlock value in real estate.

Oh, and we do it in 3D…

Why do You Do What you Do?

I got my start in real estate working for a development company in DC after getting laid off from the hedge fund industry. After learning the ropes, I began to realize that there was no accessible, complete source of information for real estate development data. And even when I was able to find what I needed, I still had a lot of work to do in building spreadsheets to crunch all the numbers for each opportunity.

What are you most excited about right now?

A main part of our focus is bringing spatial information about buildings into a central database where it can be easily accessed by all. Between Google’s Project Tango and some innovative ways we’re currently capturing data from MagicPlan and architectural models, it is getting easier by the day to provide users with a truly immersive real estate experience.

What’s next for you?

As we launch Create in different cities around the country, we’re getting involved with some really groundbreaking pilot projects like the construction of an entire neighborhood in DC and the planning of a major hospital campus & town center. As our technology continues to develop, the best part is getting our hands dirty and putting it to work to bring building projects on line more efficiently in the brick & mortar world.

What’s a cause you’re passionate about and why?

I’m a big advocate for affordable housing, having worked on some of those projects and seeing their transformative effect. I’m sort of a workaholic so my mind is always running to something real estate related, whether that be architecture or travel. Aside from that, I’m into running, fly fishing, hunting, and taking my dog Gatsby to the beach.
