Nuru International
[Note from editor: For the sake of keeping giving on our minds for the entire holiday season, we’re going to highlight a non profit organization or specific good deed that has been done everyday until New Year’s as part of our Real Estate Doers Make a Difference campaign]
Non profit Highlight: Nuru International
The next organization I wanted to highlight is Nuru International. Like DailyGiver, I came across Nuru International in the comments on Fred Wilson’s Doing Good post on A VC (with a comment by Simit Patel).
How does Nuru work? They take a wholistic view to eradicating extreme poverty by encompassing healthcare, education, water, community economic development and agriculture. Their primary differentiator seems to be their laser focus on service leadership — meaning they identify, screen, and mentor respected members of the community to be service leaders. The video below explains further…
Additionally, here is a Google Tech talk by founder Jake Harriman
My Thoughts
I watched the Google Tech talk by Jake, and it’s clear his ambitions are grand, which as a fellow ambitious entrepreneur, I appreciate. His mission of eradicating extreme poverty is certainly a worthy goal to solve — I hope you’ll agree where are you are born shouldn’t dictate whether or not you have a chance to succeed.
We have until January 2 to reach our goal of $2,500 for Real Estate Doers Make a Difference (#REDMAD) — please take a minute and contribute $20 to Habitat for Humanity.
