Realtyps: Yelp for Properties
I came across Realtyps this weekend. It’s yelp for real estate properties. My hunch is it’s a reaction to Jason Calacanis’ RFP (request for prototype) for brutal real estate reviews.
What do you think? Will enough buyers review properties to make it useful? I’d be curious to hear from them as to what their go to market strategy is for gathering reviews.

Posted at 20:32h, 09 MarchNice angle, tough venue. Reviews will disappear/become irrelevant when a property is sold, right? Yelpers like to contribute to a platform where their reviews will live on and influence others. Real estate is such a short-term business on any individual property, it’s going to be very difficult to get a large enough base of reviews to make it useful to the average house hunter.

Posted at 18:55h, 10 MarchThis is silly. The premise here is that unless a house is ideal perfect, it’s open to mass criticism without context. Basically, if someone found it to be a house they like, they’d put in an offer – otherwise, trash talk it here? And how many people are going to say ‘over priced’ on every listing? This is not even remotely a value-add to the search.

Posted at 00:14h, 12 MarchNice idea but not realistically applicable. A buyer in Las Vegas will see about 5 homes in one meeting with a Realtor. By the 5th home they can’t remember which house had the 2 adjacent bedrooms upstairs- or were they separated? They’re not going to login to a website later that day to share their views. As a mobile app, few buyers will make an effort to review a home let alone “check in” to a home they’re standing in. For example, Trulia has an app for agents to use to “check in” to houses and there’s just too much going on when you’re looking at homes to bother. You’re more concerned about getting the driving directions to the next house.

Posted at 17:21h, 23 MarchThank you for the blog post Drew and thank you for the comments, it’s good to hear the feedback. Let me respond to some of the comments and questions: @allison_jung:disqus, the Realtyps mobile app, which will be in the app store soon, makes it very easy for both agents and buyers to enter their typs and reviews, while at the property. Agents can use the app to demonstrate their knowledge about properties and gain access to new clients. Buyers can share their reviews, bit positive and negative. @running262:disqus, for instance, you may see a house that is amazing, but does not fit your needs (e.g. it’s on a steep hill and you have small kids). @seattlehomes:disqus, you are right in the sense that these reviews are most relevant while the house is on the market, however, the reviews are also relevant even after the house is sold, such as in the instance that a buyer is looking to purchase the house next door or when the house is on the market for the second time. Thanks again for your feedback, keep it coming. The goal for Realtyps is to bring efficiency to the market, for buyers, sellers and agents. Thanks, Kristina from Realtyps
