Announced yesterday, there is a new player worth noting in the real estate data space – REonomy.com. It’s a subscription model geared towards real estate professionals, which immediately makes it lose some of its’ appeal (to me) because I can’t look at anything without signing up. Additionally, the site currently only has data for the 5 boroughs of New York and much of New Jersey, so is not applicable to all real estate pros. But Rob Hahn of Onboard Informatics, who knows a little bit about data himself, did the legwork on this one with his writeup today at Notorious R.O.B. (BTW, congrats on getting up and running with a self-hosted intance of WP). The thing that really caught my attention in his post was the image I’ve included below, which is just plain “cool” — it shows air rights over a parcel in NYC. Sure, its’ not relevant to everyone — but to someone looking to invest in that plot of land, it’s essential information to have prior to spending millions of dollars.

It would take me hours or days to come up with something comparable to Rob’s excellent analysis — so, with that said, I’d recommend just going to read his article.
