The lifestyle community I wish to exist?

Global entrepreneurs who think big and believe in social good.

I’ll be honest: I haven’t personally executed on the the ongoing communication strategy I am detailing in the 4th and final article in my “Turning Clients into Lifestyle Communities” mini-series — so the community isn’t current vibrant/engaged/strong. But I do have a community manifesto (which is part 1 in the setup), for what it means to be in the Global Entrepreneurs community Jonathan Yankovich, Scott McLeod , and I created at Startup Abroad in Bali over a year ago…and I’ll share it here in the event it inspires words for your own lifestyle community manifesto.

Thank you to the specific person reading who inspired me to write this, but who seeks no recognition for it. What follows is the manifesto…

“Great minds discuss ideas; Average minds discuss events; Small minds discuss people.” — Eleanor Roosevelt

The Global Entrepreneurs group is a place for entrepreneurs building amazing companies to share ideas, best practices, advice, and collaborate.

It’s for those who realize the only limit to what you can achieve is your own mind. That impossible is possible. For those who laugh when someone says “be realistic” and for whom “good enough”… isn’t. It’s for those who feel social good is an essential foundation to building a lasting business. For those who challenge themselves each and every day. It’s for those who understand money is made with execution and not ideas. For those with crazy ambitions and not afraid to strike out. It’s for those destined to leave this world a better place than when they entered.

This is not a place to discuss affiliate marketing, spammy SEO tactics, or location independent lifestyles. Those are cop outs to building real businesses that add value to others lives. This is a place to collaborate and grow with others building real, sustainable brands on a global scale.

This is a place with a shared belief that we are wasting our time on earth if we are not making other people’s lives better. Lastly, it’s for those who strive to surround themselves with the best and brightest minds around and share a love of travel.

We aren’t fans of rules, but it’s helpful to have a few guiding principles to making sure everyone gets value from this group:

  1. Less is more. Our goal is not to cover everything known to man – that’s being done elsewhere on the web every day. Only what’s important.
  2. Make every comment count. No “great post” comments.
  3. No posting links to your own stuff or promoting your own products/services. If something is great and worth discussing, someone else in the group can post it.
  4. Attack ideas. Not people. And provide new ideas, or better ideas. Or even full blown solutions.
  5. Stay on topic. Only high quality conversations relevant to global entrepreneurs.
  6. Ditch your ego.
  7. Think BIG – the impossible is possible. Embrace that.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” — Coach Carter (secularized variation of a quote by Marianne Williamson)

Membership: Invite only amazing entrepreneurs into this group. If you would’t bring them on as a partner in your company, they shouldn’t be here.
