The Way We Think About Charity is Dead Wrong
This is still one of my all time favorite TED talks. I just re-watched it last night for the 3rd or 4th time. It’s Dan Pallotta talking about how we think about charity is wrong, and why.
I wholeheartedly agree with Dan that marketing is a necessary part of achieving scale and impact, otherwise I wouldn’t have chosen to bake social good directly into the business model of my own for-profit company, Horizon.
This is the same reason I’m so excited about initiatives such as Giveback Homes (which I’ve written about numerous times) — because I believe they are a scaleable way to improve the world. Please, go support them and help them deliver real change in the lives of those in need.
