Moving Email Subscriptions to Mailchimp

by Drew Meyers on 1:41 pm July 14, 2016

Over the past few weeks, traffic has been slowly declining and I’ve noticed a slight decrease in comments. I believe I finally realized the issue — emails for new posts stopped going out. One of my (many) email addresses is subscribed, and upon publishing several posts the other day and not seeing an email from Feedburner the next morning like usual — I dug into the issue and realized the last email I received was from the post on June 24th. Since then, I don’t believe anyone has been getting any … Read More »

In New York City January 26-29

by Drew Meyers on 5:07 pm January 12, 2016

New York City has long been one of my favorite spots to spend time. I’m taking a redeye from Seattle to JFK January 25th, arriving at 6 am Tuesday morning. I’m in town until early afternoon on Friday. If you want to want some free advice (see here), and you’ll be in town for Inman Connect (or live in NYC), would highly prefer to speak in person. If that’s you, shoot me a mail at drew at horizonapp co.

The Big Short

by Drew Meyers on 7:57 am December 29, 2015

The financial crisis of 2007-2008 was a massive meltdown that say trillions lost; the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Why do I mention this now? I saw the new film, The Big Short, last night: The film is definitely worth watching this holiday season. Especially, if you’re like me and didn’t know all the ins and outs of CDOs, subprime, adjustable rate mortgages (among other things) and their role in the collapse — and, especially, since there is probably not a reader of this blog whose life was … Read More »

Gifts for Real Estate Agents (Realtors) in 2015

by Drew Meyers on 3:51 pm December 11, 2015

Are you looking for gift ideas for real estate agents (aka Realtors) this upcoming holiday season? Those who know me, know I’m not the biggest fan of consumerism (read this post I wrote on Christmas day in 2010). Thus, in 2015, please don’t spend money purchasing worthless material items your friend or family (who happens to be an agent) doesn’t need. Here are a few worthwhile Christmas gifts to consider: The first month or two of membership to GiveBack Homes ($50/mo). I can’t think of a better way to … Read More »

A Refugee Story Worth Sharing

by Drew Meyers on 8:37 pm November 18, 2015

This has nothing to do with real estate technology, so if you can handle that, read on… From a comment on AVC from Yasmine Mustafa: Something broke down in the immigration system because despite being brought here, we discovered we were illegal aliens when I tried applying for college. I put myself through school with two under the table jobs and couldn’t apply for scholarships despite my 3.8 GPA. It took me seven and a half years to graduate. That experience motivated me to want … Read More »

Find & Do Work You Love

by Drew Meyers on 3:43 pm September 14, 2015

What is the work YOU can’t NOT do? Go do it. Life’s too short not to. Scott, the speaker in the talk above, recently died on Mount Kilimanjaro in a freak accident. See this note from a friend of his.

Labor Thoughts on Labor Day

by Drew Meyers on 10:46 am September 7, 2015

Fred Wilson has a few thoughts on Labor (on Labor Day). Go read it, including the comments. I’m constantly blown away with the quality of the discussion on his blog, AVC. It’s my belief many of the smartest people online are there, day in, day out — which, of course, is the reason the discussion is so vibrant and thorough. The post & comments got me thinking about organized labor and those earning low wages — which happens to be the VAST majority of the world. I come … Read More »
