Hypothetical: What If…

by Drew Meyers on 9:30 am August 29, 2017

…this blog went away. What if I stopped writing entirely? Would you pay $5 per month to keep the blog going at its current rate of content (3-5 articles per week)? If not, what would have to change in the way of content to make that worthwhile? More frequent content? More deep analysis of the issues facing our industry? More product reviews? Please leave a comment or email me directly.

I’m Not a Reporter

by Drew Meyers on 5:19 pm August 25, 2017

When I get pitches from PR pros and founders, it’s often under the pretense that I’m a journalist and my job is to write about their company. They haven’t done their research. If they had, they’d understand I’m not a reporter and have no plans to ever become one. I’m just a geek who loves real estate, and have zero desire to add to the endless noise (which is worse in 2017 than it was in 2013 when I wrote the post). Keep in mind, Geek Estate doesn’t … Read More »

Cable News, and Fear

by Drew Meyers on 11:43 am October 13, 2016

This isn’t really related to real estate tech, so if that’s what you’re looking for today, you can head elsewhere. Seth Godin’s post yesterday was about Cable News. More specifically, fear and what’s causing it: What if the fear and malaise and anger isn’t merely being reported by cable news… What if it’s being caused by cable news? What if ubiquitous video accompanied by frightening and freaked out talking heads is actually, finally, changing our culture? Which came first, the news or the news cycle? We seem to … Read More »

Moving Email Subscriptions to Mailchimp

by Drew Meyers on 1:41 pm July 14, 2016

Over the past few weeks, traffic has been slowly declining and I’ve noticed a slight decrease in comments. I believe I finally realized the issue — emails for new posts stopped going out. One of my (many) email addresses is subscribed, and upon publishing several posts the other day and not seeing an email from Feedburner the next morning like usual — I dug into the issue and realized the last email I received was from the post on June 24th. Since then, I don’t believe anyone has been getting any … Read More »

The Big Short

by Drew Meyers on 7:57 am December 29, 2015

The financial crisis of 2007-2008 was a massive meltdown that say trillions lost; the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Why do I mention this now? I saw the new film, The Big Short, last night: The film is definitely worth watching this holiday season. Especially, if you’re like me and didn’t know all the ins and outs of CDOs, subprime, adjustable rate mortgages (among other things) and their role in the collapse — and, especially, since there is probably not a reader of this blog whose life was … Read More »
