And…Tesla Enters the Real Estate Industry. Kind Of.
The Powerwall Home Battery is coming to a home near you. Via NPR:
In an ambitious bid to move beyond the electric car market, Tesla has announced that it will start selling large batteries to let homeowners store electricity. The Powerwall home battery starts at $3,000.
Elon Musk has proved numerous times that he can make gigantic dents in numerous industries. A next generation battery certainly could impact home owners is a massive, massive way over the coming years. I’m willing to bet we’ll see Tesla make its way into real estate marketing materials across the country fairly quickly post launch.
Of course, Elon would love nothing better than to see that happen, and – no surprise – his vision goes well beyond homes…
Our goal here is to fundamentally change the way the world uses energy. At the extreme scale. [via Wired]

Posted at 17:23h, 04 MayI’m a big techie, but by no means an early adopter. I’ll let others waste their money on risky propositions and then scoop the product up as soon as it has started proving its ROI.
That being said, I want one of these. I’ll be waiting for someone to give me a reason to buy it. It’s going to create all kinds of cost problems for municipality-controlled power systems. You don’t want to be the last paying customer on that grid.
