The assault on Clear Cooperation Policy feels like all the residential real estate industry is talking about over the last couple of months. AREA launched a petition to end it, but the most vocal critic has no doubt been Compass CEO Robert Reffkin.

It’s beyond obvious that Reffkin and Compass have an axe to grind, and boy are they grinding it. He spoke at CMLS a few weeks ago about “how the MLSs can improve” where his answer was to rid the MLSs of CCP. Reffkin took to CNBC last week, and when asked about the housing market conveniently pivoted the conversation directly to home sellers being disadvantaged by CCP. Listen to the whole interview, or read his Instagram post for the CCP argument.

I’ve rebutted the talking points already for the GEM membership base (see here and here). But some topics are worth addressing with a wider, public audience given that the outcome of the CCP policy will impact far more than the tech founders and executives that the GEM serves.

In short, the anti-CCP arguments Reffkin makes are a bunch of malarkey. While he has great PR training, the positioning of the issue is disingenuous and, frankly, downright wrong.
