I must confess that I was both thrilled and surprised when I was asked to be a contributor to the GeekEstate blog. Sure, I’m involved in real estate, work at an early-stage internet company, and I love blogging, but am I really a geek? Well, after an informal poll of the office, it came to my attention that yes, in fact, I am.

Thanks to my father who is a homebuilder in the DC area, I have always kept up with the market and trends in real estate and knew I would eventually get into real estate. However, it wasn’t until my junior year of college, when I had the opportunity to become involved in starting up HotPads.com, that I began to take an active interest in technology. But, once I started, I couldn’t stop and eventually wrote my senior thesis on the relationship between architectural movements and societal changes wrought by technology.

And I believe that technology is changing the real estate industry today.

Real estate professionals must understand and accept these developments and adapt their services to provide for the changing expectations and demands of their customers. And what better way to stay atop of the changes in technology than to learn from the shared knowledge of many different people? So that is why I have accepted this offer to contribute to the GeekEstate.

I hope to cover many different aspects of real estate and technology from discussing new websites to improving your listings and extending your reach with marketing and distribution. I will also include some basic discussions of Web 2.0, as well as some CSS and HTML for non-computer engineers… and everything in between!
