In Business for 100 Years?
I just read a Fast Company article on Phil Libin (CEO of Evernote) talking about the fact that they are building a company to last 100 years. I love the last quote:
It never starts out with how much money can we make. It never starts out with how many of these can we sell? It starts out with what’s the point of it; why is the world better off because this product has existed in it? If the world isn’t better off because the product existed in it then it’s just not interesting to make.
Are you building something to last? Or is it going to disappear overnight the second you move on to something else (or retire to the beach)?
A few brokerages in real estate I know are building something that will last…
And yes, I know – it’s the same several people being highlighted again. You are in the weeds in your market. Who impresses you? Who else is truly building a real brand? Leave your thoughts in the comments..

Posted at 17:11h, 14 JuneActually, I heard Phil Libin talk about this here in NYC a few weeks ago. He meant much more than a company that would last 100 years. He speaks about a 100 year startup – a company that remains fun, creative, and responsive to the shifting landscape of the market. Awesome, right?
