In our latest real estate tech entrepreneur interview, we’re speaking with Thomas Kutzman from Prevu.

Who are you, and what do you do?

My name is Thomas Kutzman. I am Co-CEO and Co-founder of Prevu, a real estate technology company on a mission to save homebuyers money. I am responsible for the marketing and finance functions for the firm. Prior to starting Prevu, I spent over a decade in financial markets focused on investing in public technology companies at asset management firms and top-tier investment banks. The experience, insights, appreciation and understanding of capital markets that I — as well as my co-founder Chase Marsh – gained while working in finance provided a great foundation for helping us launch Prevu. I believe real estate is in the early innings of disruption, and there is a great deal of parallels to technological changes I’ve witnessed in other sectors over my career.

What problem does your product/service solve?

Prevu’s digital Smart Buyer™ platform offers a homebuying experience with unparalleled control, transparency and savings. With Prevu, consumers can seamlessly search, offer and save up to 2 percent of the purchase price when they buy a home. This zero-pressure online experience delivers a smarter, more efficient way for homebuyers to transact while also providing significant cost savings. Customers who have used Prevu to purchase homes have received rebates of $23,000 on average.

What are you most excited about right now?

Prevu recently completed a $2 million seed round of funding led by Corigin Ventures, an early investor in Compass. Kairos and AVG Basecamp Fund also contributed to the seed round. We are excited to partner with all of the investors who participated in our first institutional round of venture financing and share our vision on the new direction we believe residential real estate is heading.

What’s next for you?

As a result of our seed round, we will be expanding our engineering team to build more tools that improve Prevu’s consumer experience and agent efficiency. We will also be accelerating our brand awareness in NYC and in the new geographic markets we plan to enter.

What’s a cause you’re passionate about and why?

I believe education is extremely important particularly in encouraging today’s youth toward technology fields. A friend of mine who I graduated NYU with founded an Austin-based charity named Code2College, which provides access and opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) to students from underrepresented backgrounds (girls, students of color and from low-income neighborhoods). I have had the privilege of donating to this great cause many times and look forward to contributing my time as well in the future.
