Founders, entrepreneurs — as well as agents/brokers — should all read Fred Wilson’s post about seeing through the fog.

The fog is a big part of the obsession with shiny objects (there’s more than enough of them in this industry). If you don’t know where you’re going, you’re more likely than not to pay attention to every object that comes into view. You’re also more likely than not to spend excessive time engaging in activities which are not helping you reach your goals. If the road goes straight, and you’re off to the right navigating trees and shrubs — it’s clear that’s not moving forward.

If all you do is TALK about something (note that’s 98% of sales and marketing folks), chances are pretty damn good you’re stuck in the fog.

How do you plan to escape that fog? What’s your thesis? Do you know where your industry is going? What actions by your competitors could hurt your business? How do you counter before they out-execute you?

Want out? Get your hands dirty so you know which way to steer your business.
