The “Amazon” Real Estate Agent

by Drew Meyers on 9:00 am September 7, 2017

Those of you in Seattle may have seen the article in the Seattle Times last weekend. Amazon occupies 19% of the prime commercial real estate in the entire city. They are hiring 400 people a week. That pace is simply mind blowing to think about. This city really is becoming Amazonville — and they are planning a HQ2 somewhere else. Maybe they will become a real estate portal. There is seemingly no industry they don’t want to conquer. Hell, they are even becoming a bank. Forget the … Read More »

Amazon and Real Estate

by Drew Meyers on 6:10 pm July 12, 2017

Amazon supposedly has their sights on real estate (via HousingWire). From a brand perspective, how far away is Amazon from being thought of as the “place to go to find a local contractor”? Really far. How far away are they from being thought of as the “place to find a service professional” (used once every 7 years)? Really really really damn far. How about we call this what it is? A small test. A shiny object the press wants to talk about with the recent … Read More »

What Would An Amazon Strategy for Brokerages/Franchises Entail?

by Drew Meyers on 10:49 pm June 25, 2017

You probably heard the news about the acquisition of Whole Foods by Amazon ($13.7 billion). It’s a big deal — Amazon just secured their biggest and best customer for their grocery services. Honestly, Amazon’s strategy and execution are beyond comprehension. For the curious, there’s some great analysis of the acquisition by Ben Gilbert and David Rosenthal on the latest edition of the Acquired podcast. Enough about Whole Foods. What I really wanted to speculate on is…. what would an Amazon strategy look like, were they in the shoes … Read More »

Will the Amazon Echo (aka Alexa) Power the Future of Real Estate?

by Drew Meyers on 7:45 am December 28, 2016

I almost bought an Echo Dot for $49 this week (affiliate link), but didn’t quite pull the trigger. Earlier today in Inman’s FB group (Yes, you should attend), I came across the following demo video from Voiceter Pro (they bill themselves as the conversational search company) of the Alexa real estate app they’ve built. I don’t know about you, but it seems to be an inferior search experience to what buyers have today. Why not just pull out your iPad (or phone) and Zillow, Redfin, or Realtor.com? It would take … Read More »

The Mayday Button, for Real Estate?

by Drew Meyers on 6:00 am December 17, 2013

According to many, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos is considered the most brilliant tech executive since the late Steve Jobs. I tend to agree with that thinking, which is exactly why I put so much weight on the most prominent part of Kindle’s new commercial being…the Mayday button. I’ve talked about Google Helpouts before. Mayday is a very similar concept. Click the button on your Kindle, and you’ll instantly get a live human to help you with whatever you need (their goal is to increase Amazon’s conversion rates). What if a … Read More »
