Are You Wondering Why You Use Twitter and Facebook?
In addition to using Twitter and Facebook for branding, direct traffic, and relationship building, you can now add “better SEO” to the list of reasons to use the social platforms. While most in the SEO world have thought links shared on Twitter and Facebook have influenced SEO for quite some time, both Bing and Google finally confirmed that fact publicly.
Now that the cats outta the bag on that one, be prepared for even more marketers to come running to the platforms — and more spammers to hammer them with crap.

The SEOmoz article (http://www.seomoz.org/blog/google-bing-confirm-twitter-facebook-influence-seo) was very interesting. I hope this discourages spammers, people tweeting just for the sake of it and encourages clean tweeting. Only time will tell?

Posted at 05:58h, 05 DecemberDrew – Rand’s article did an incredible job of breaking down this new addition to the major search provider’s algorithms. Those of us who have been talking about the death of linking between blogs and other sites now have something positive to think about when considering the new ways that people point to things they care about online. Social is definitely taking over!

Posted at 20:49h, 07 DecemberI am very happy that both of these search engines have confirmed this information. Our company keeps up on these social media sites “just in case” they actually contribute to SEO but now we know that it has been helping.

Posted at 01:09h, 09 DecemberThanks for posting Drew. I think that while it was publicly talked about, Matt and team at Google will seriously be watching for spammy links even coming from large social sites such as fb and twitter. For me, I seriously hope they take this into consideration. After being involved on the web for going on 12 years now, it seems that we’ll always be fighting of folks trying to game the system.
And trust me, Google is smarter than they are. 🙂
Cheers, Matt

Posted at 02:05h, 10 DecemberWe should brace ourselves for the onslaught of streams from brands and companies on twitter/facebook. I guess it helps that there are screening functions for most social media platforms.
