Moving to WordPress in 2011: What Questions Do You Have?
It’s my strong believe that 70% of the real estate agent and broker websites will be on WordPress within 3 years. And yes, I’m here to tell you that you should switch to WordPress sooner rather than later. My question for those thinking about migrating over but haven’t decided to make the jump yet is this — what’s preventing you from switching?
Is it the time involved to setup a new website? The cost? Wondering if WordPress is a viable long term platform to use? The time it takes to learn to use a new back end interface? Or do you just happen to like your current website? What questions do you have about WordPress that you’d like answered?
Full disclosure: I work for a company that sells WordPress websites

Posted at 23:54h, 30 JanuaryThe time it takes to actually setup the site, or the time it takes to
migrate your existing content over (or write new content if you don’t
already have it)?

Posted at 13:19h, 31 JanuaryMy existing main website has been around for 12 years. All the pages are well indexed in the search engines, and I am first page Google in many local searches. I am in the process of redoing the site in WordPress, and it will look and function much better. I am concerned about losing the indexing of all the pages from the old site and my search engine positions that have taken years to build when i make the transition.

Posted at 16:31h, 31 JanuaryYou just need to make sure you put all the 301’s in place. I’d recommend
using the Redirection wp plugin – it offers great functionality for that and
I use it on multiple sites.

Posted at 18:22h, 31 JanuarySpeaking as a real estate agent with a wp.com site who decided to make the switch, I can report that it is a huge leap. The .com doesn’t require any more technical know-how than is needed to use the MLS. To use the .net version, without giving up many dollars and an unknown amount of control to some developer, requires getting familiar with a couple of code languages, looking for directions which are outdated by the time you find them, following directions step by step only to discover that you are missing something fundamental that you should already have known. For anyone who is up for a challenge this is a great journey. You will meet new people; people who can’t get enough of reading and writing code; people who are creative and adventurous; people who might want to buy a house from you. For everyone else, hire a developer.

Posted at 00:01h, 01 FebruaryFunny that you should post this. I’m in the middle of making a switch. I probably would have done it earlier, but with some 12,000 indexed pages it’s not easy. Now that there are so many tools -free and paid- the switch had to be made.

Posted at 18:45h, 01 February12,000 is quite a few. Are you in the midst of doing a professional design on top of your current site?
