Will AI Ruin Online Reviews Forever?

by Drew Meyers on 3:37 pm September 6, 2017

I’ve long been a skeptic of reviews because I know the reality: anyone with a bit of money or time/know-how can game reviews. Have a read through my article about whether people trust reviews from 2015 for more background on the topic. Fast forward 2 years. There is recent news that AI can now create reviews that neither computers nor humans at the world’s largest review site (Yelp) can distinguish from legitimate reviews. If any AI bot can populate reviews automatically at massive scale and … Read More »

by Eric Boyenga on 9:30 am June 29, 2017

Below are five key points for making sure your online first impression lasts longer than your most recent Snapchat. Reviews: These days, almost everyone does their research online. Anything from movies, restaurants, Uber drivers to real estate agents, is rated and reviewed by everyone. Word of mouth isn’t what it used to be, and more people are turning towards online reviews for a first, second, and ultimately the last opinion  so ensuring your online presence is positive as a Realtor is crucial. They don’t all have … Read More »

by Drew Meyers on 4:27 pm January 4, 2016

The other day, we got a referral from Google for the search term: real estate ‘agent review’ plugin widget for websites Clearly a tech savvy agent looking for a response. So here’s the answer. RealSatisfied is one of the clear leaders (from what I can tell) in agent reviews. (see my previous post about the opportunity to help consumers determine who to trust). Knowing Jeff Turner the way I do, it didn’t surprise me to find they have a WordPress plugin which allows agents to display ratings and testimonials … Read More »

Reviews/Ratings. Do You Trust Them?

by Drew Meyers on 9:19 am August 24, 2015

Pretty much everything is reviewed online now. Apartments. Restaurants. AirBnB hosts (& travelers). Hotels. Contractors. Books. Lyft drivers (and riders). Couchsurfers. Real estate agents. Etc. I saw an ad on TV last night for The message was “rate your apartment on”. We’ve been thinking, and talking, about putting reviews on Horizon for over 6 months. We had a discussion about the topic again on Friday, with a friend (from the real estate industry coincidentally). Thus, I thought I’d put a few thoughts out there and see if people … Read More »

What do Designations Mean to Consumers? Seriously.

by Drew Meyers on 8:46 am June 17, 2015

I just came across this agent profile. Of course I get the concept of reviews/ratings on agents. What I don’t get is why a consumer would ever care about designations to the point an agent (or web platform) would want to highlight them? Accredited Greenagent – Residential? Market Value Appraiser – Residential? Senior Real Estate Specialist? Come again? I’ve been in the industry for 10 years, yet even I don’t have the faintest idea what any of those designations mean. My advice? If a consumer won’t understand something … Read More »

Zillow Adds Reviews to Zillow Connect

by Drew Meyers on 1:50 pm November 4, 2014

Zillow does it again. I won’t write an essay, but adding reviews to their API is a brilliant move. They just took a massive step toward winning the race for consumer trust.

The Next Big Opportunity: Agent Reviews…and Trust

by Drew Meyers on 6:03 am February 4, 2014

Search is a lost cause (IMHO), at least for the industry. Just like it took outsiders like Zillow & Trulia to overtake, it’ll likely take another outsider to make a serious run at Zillow & Trulia sometime down the line. So, what’s the next opportunity the industry will be fighting to win? Buyers find a listing, and then they need what? An agent. What do consumers really want to know? Who to trust. That’s the reason people largely use a friend or a friend … Read More »
