Homelight Gets Another $40 Million in Funding

by Drew Meyers on 3:08 pm August 15, 2017

$40 million in fresh funding is an indicator the HomeLight tv ads I wrote about earlier this year were an indicator something is working. I’d be curious to know what their cost of customer acquisition is for the big 500% growth number cited in the TechCrunch article. If anyone has any intel to share, I’d love to hear it (privately or publicly in the comments). If you’re an agent or broker who receives leads from HomeLight, would love to know if they are high quality with … Read More »

HomeLight TV Ads: The Smarter Way to find a Real Estate Agent

by Drew Meyers on 9:30 am March 22, 2017

At the bar prior to the Seattle Sounders home opener Sunday night, I was shocked when I looked over and saw the tail end of a Homelight television spot. Most recent: Older iteration: The smarter way to find a real estate agent. I get why they use that as the core tag line, though not sure it captures the imagination enough. If I’m looking for an agent right this second, sure I may be tempted to go see what Homelight is all about. However, if I’m not in … Read More »

Homelight, Placester + RealSatisfied

by Drew Meyers on 8:24 am April 19, 2016

A couple pieces of news related to real estate startups… Placester acquired Realsatisfied. The Placester move makes sense given they grew their reach by 150,000 agents in one day. The combined team is a more formidable foe to Zillow than they were as separate companies. Congrats to both teams. [Update: a blog post from the CEO of Realsatisfied] Homelight has raised another $11 in a Series A. I don’t hear much about Homelight these days, but I have to assume they are getting some level of … Read More »

The Next Big Opportunity: Agent Reviews…and Trust

by Drew Meyers on 6:03 am February 4, 2014

Search is a lost cause (IMHO), at least for the industry. Just like it took outsiders like Zillow & Trulia to overtake Realtor.com, it’ll likely take another outsider to make a serious run at Zillow & Trulia sometime down the line. So, what’s the next opportunity the industry will be fighting to win? Buyers find a listing, and then they need what? An agent. What do consumers really want to know? Who to trust. That’s the reason people largely use a friend or a friend … Read More »

Agent Match, Some Competition for HomeLight

by Drew Meyers on 10:56 am November 11, 2013

HomeLight (discussed previously here) has some competition in Realtor.com’s new Agent Match. Their value proposition to sellers? Sell Your Home. Compare and connect with the best performing agents in your neighborhood. Northern Colorado (Boulder) and Las Vegas Valley are the two test markets for the service. Here is a random address results page I dug up in Boulder – seems to be fairly well done. What do you think? And, as I mentioned in my previous post about Homelight, the real question is whether consumers will … Read More »
