Cost Per Click, by Geography?
For those doing search engine marketing, I’m curious — what are you paying for targeted traffic to your website?
Please leave a rough ballpark dollar amount in the comments, along with the geographic area you do business in. If you’re willing to share the source of where you purchase that traffic from, that would be an added bonus.
Appreciate any help you can offer satisfying my curiosity.

Posted at 10:03h, 26 JuneGoogle AdWords last 7 days is .42 per click, 3.83% Click Through Rate. I target Oahu in Hawaii.
Bing Ads is .27 per click, CTR is 5.48%.
I have been running these ads for years, I did extensive split testing for a while and believe I have optimized the ad.
My max cost per click is set to .50. Average position for number 1 keyword is 2.8. Position between 2.1 to 4.1 for my top 4 keywords on AdWords. Overall average for all keywords is position 3.6.
Quality score 8/10 on 2 keywords, 10/10 on one, and 7/10 for one for my top 4 search terms on AdWords.

Posted at 06:31h, 29 JuneYour costs are amazingly low – which is great. Considering your location, I would have imagined much more. Top key words in our market are between $2.00 and $3.00.

Posted at 11:08h, 29 JuneI agree. If your CTR and Quality scores are similar and you are paying $2 to $3 that sounds pretty expensive to me.
The last 30 days I spent $225.60 for 543 clicks on Adwords, to give you an idea of the volume per month. My budgets are not maxed out, so this is the most clicks they can give me for these keywords.
There are a few keywords I don’t bid on because of the higher price.

Posted at 05:22h, 27 JuneHow do come up with a adword plan? so many offer so much and deliver so little. I do Postcards everyday direct and I know that makes the phone ring.

Posted at 11:07h, 27 JuneMy goal is to get users to my website. From there if they keep using the website there is a chance they will use us. Once they give us there Email they also go on a email marketing campaign. Others might use a squeeze page.
I recommend just jumping into it if you have the time. Remember, you control your maximum cost-per-click and you daily budget, so you can’t get a big unexpected bill playing around with it.

Posted at 20:21h, 05 JulyJim, before spending money on a campaign, do a great deal of research on how it works and learn from others like Bryn. If you use an 3rd party agency, be sure it’s someone with a track record in residential real estate marketing. There are a lot of really smarmy folks out there in the SEO, PPC space.

Posted at 10:56h, 06 JulyOne other thing I would recommend is to speak to the Google AdWords team. They have been very helpful, and they will help you as much as needed at no charge.

Posted at 10:07h, 27 JuneGoal was to increase sellers for a Realtor in SE Michigan. Audience was 3 zip codes where Realtor specializes, median home price is $150K. Plan was to be top of page on Google via PPC for +home+sell, +house+sell, +realtor+sell keywords only. $100/month budget for 90 days, Apr-June.
Results: Average CPC $2, Avg Pos 1.9, avg CTR 1%.

Posted at 16:36h, 05 JulyI never had a lot of success with sellers. It was my IDX that captured buyers. I may have to look again at this strategy for sellers.
Although Facebook ads from something like HomeValueLeads seems much cheaper. The quality would definitely be weaker though…

Posted at 16:33h, 05 JulyI used to spend roughly $250/mo on PPC via AdWords, but stopped some time ago.
Averaged between .75-$1.30/click if I recall. Mainly on variations of [whatever neighborhood real estate for sale]. My market is urban Nashville.
A few years ago Google decided that they liked my blog organically for many of the keywords I was paying for so I stopped spending and traffic is still the basically the same. It’s kindof a miracle. I got very lucky.
I also attempted to compete for several large condo developments. I had mixed results on that, but I did well for “Nashville Condos” – still do pretty well with that one.
If the G-gods ever change their mind on my rankings, I’ll jump back in.
