New: Facebook Social Plugins
Exciting news! Fresh from today’s Facebook f8 conference in San Francisco, there’s a whole slew of new Facebook social plugins that you can easily incorporate into your site:

Drew and Justin have recently written some great tips on using Facebook, and with their new social plugins it’s even easier to connect your site to the social graph. You can add the basic “like” button just by copying and pasting code into your site, and from that foundation you can add a ton of additional features. These changes go beyond just adding new plugins: Facebook believes the underlying structure of the web is changing to fully integrate our social graphs, and they intend to be at the center of it. Below are all the new features along with the summary quoted from Facebook’s description:
Like Button: “The Like button lets users share pages from your site back to their Facebook profile with one click.”
Recommendations: “The Recommendations plugin gives users personalized suggestions for pages on your site they might like.”
Login with Faces: “The Login with Faces plugin shows profile pictures of the user’s friends who have already signed up for your site in addition to a login button.”
Comments: “The Comments plugin lets users comment on any piece of content on your site.”
Activity Feed: “The Activity Feed plugin shows users what their friends are doing on your site through likes and comments.”
Like Box: “The Like box enables users to like your Facebook Page and view its stream directly from your website.”
Facepile: “The Facepile plugin shows profile pictures of the user’s friends who have already signed up for your site.”
Live Stream: “The Live Stream plugin lets your users share activity and comments in real-time as they interact during a live event.”

Posted at 10:36h, 22 AprilI'm going to reserve judgement on these new features until I've had the chance to try them out and see them in action. If they work as intended this is pretty exciting stuff.

Posted at 11:45h, 23 AprilI like the idea of the comments plugin, but I'm not sure exactly how to integrate it into my site. If there was a plugin that combined comments made on the actual website, plus FB and twitter comments on that same link, that would give a much more complete picture of the comments a page is getting.
