Are You a Google Apps User and Can't Get Google+?

by Drew Meyers on 12:15 pm July 8, 2011

I got a question from Lori Bee (a client of ours) this morning asking if I had any insight as to why she couldn’t get Google+ with her email address (which uses Google Apps). It was my first realization that Google+ wasn’t supported for Google Apps users, and I just emailed her back that she’s out of luck now and to use her gmail address instead. I didn’t think much of it, but then I saw the news on Techmeme a little while later … Read More »

Change in Google Map API Terms of Service Could Mean Big Headaches for Brokers and Vendors

by Joe Trusty on 1:07 pm May 25, 2011

In an announcement made on the Google Developers’ blog, they recently announced changes to their terms of use for the free map API that many IDX Vendors and Brokers are using. Google announced that they will begin delivering advertising inside map imagery. They will also begin limiting the number of times a free map can be displayed. This causes big potential headaches for IDX providers and Brokerages alike. First, many MLS’s don’t allow advertising to be displayed in or around their IDX data. Literally overnight, … Read More »

Bing Grabbing Market Share from Google

by Justin Britt on 5:49 am March 25, 2011

In the past, I always concentrated on optimizing my web pages for Google first, and Yahoo! and Bing second. That’s because Google’s competitors delivered a fraction of the traffic—making the search giant my go to source. But when Yahoo! threw in the towel and announced that Bing would be powering its search (2009) I knew that Microsoft was going to give Google a run for their money…well, at least close the gap. Despite recently being busted by Google for copying their search results, Bing has … Read More »

Zillow + Yahoo Real Estate Partnership Goes Live

by Justin Britt on 1:01 pm February 3, 2011

Shortly after Google announces they will be removing real estate listings from their maps, Zillow and Yahoo Real Estate’s long awaited partnership goes live today. Is this strictly a coincidence? Strategically this is a great move for Zillow, and will effect the real estate industry in several ways. From a real estate agent’s perspective, this expands marketing reach and puts everything into one user interface…saving agents time and allowing them to focus on other tasks. On one of the MLS committees I sit on in Maui, … Read More »

My Thoughts on the "No Listings on Google Maps" News

by Drew Meyers on 5:01 pm January 28, 2011

You likely have already heard the news that Google is removing their real estate listings from Google Maps. You might have even attended the Webinar yesterday with Gahlord Dewald (Thought Faucet), Mike Simonsen (Altos Research), Dustin Luther (4realz), and Rich Bailey (Wolfnet). But, let’s be real here. Does this news really “change” anything? What does the lack of real estate listings on Google maps mean to consumers? Nothing, zilch, nada. Have you ever talked to an home buyer using Google maps to search for their … Read More »

Home Valuation Map Using Google Fusion Tables

by Murali Vasudevan on 7:30 am January 14, 2011

Google Fusion Tables is a modern data management and publishing web application that makes it easy to host, manage, collaborate on, visualize, and publish data tables online. Though in beta stage, I liked its potential and wanted to give it a try. Zillow Real Estate Market Report provides Home value index for major US metro regions. I used it to create a Google Fusion Table. Check it out NOW!. Once you bring up the Table, select Visuallize/Map menu option to view this on a Google … Read More »

Local Goes Big In Google's Search Results

by Justin Britt on 2:20 pm November 1, 2010

Literally. Google’s local listing in their search results are now larger then the organic listings. Take a look at this Google search for “Hawaii Big Island real estate.” The first 7 listings are large local results with only 6 natural listings below. The reason this search was interesting to me is because I noticed in Hawaii Life’s Google Webmaster Tools that I had lost -37% of the click throughs for this search term. As you can see in the image above, the second Local listing … Read More »

How To Increase Traffic to Your Website…Google Instantly!

by Justin Britt on 6:14 pm October 7, 2010

Will Google Instant Change The Longtail As We Know It? Recently, I was on Maui (I know…I live a tough life) helping top Wailea real estate agent, Dano Sayles, get up to speed with Hawaii Life’s back end tools. While I was there, I had the pleasure of meeting Dano’s web developer, Brad Carroll, CEO of Dakno Marketing. After a long day of  work—then drinks and sushi at some of South Maui’s local hot spots—Brad and I retired to our townhouse at Hoolei. We stayed … Read More »

Google Instant is Here – Live Search at Your Fingertips (actually faster than your fingertips can type)

by Drew Meyers on 5:55 am September 9, 2010

Google Instant is here. And it’s cool — head to and try it out by starting to type in the search box. As with any change with Google, there is a wealth of speculation. Speculation as to what Instant means to SEO and to to the “homepage”. Speculation as to how Yahoo! could have won search. Forget the Yahoo speculation, since that’s not really relevant to the real estate industry. But the SEO angle is interesting. What do you think it means for real … Read More »
